Paypal - Are They Back In The Online Gambling Industry?

PayPal started pulling out of the online gambling industry when they were purchased by eBay in 2002. The political climate in the US was not good, and trouble started for a lot of online payment processors when the UIGEA was launched in 2006. Neteller, the world’s largest online gambling deposit method, came under a lot of heat and had to close down their shop for US citizens. PayPal had been “clean” for a long time and steered clear of the radio. Today, they are enforcing a strict no-gambling policy, closing down accounts swiftly if they suspect anything gambling-related is going on.

Even though they have this stance on online gambling, a few online casinos are actually using PayPal as an active deposit methods these days. Betfair, Ladbrokes, and recently added Victor Chandler, all accept PayPal. Those are currently the only gambling sites in the world who are allowed to use PayPal. So why only these select few?

There are a number of rumors circulating, but the fact that these sites all are British tells us a lot. The UK is known for having a much more gambling-friendly government as opposed to the USA. This leads us to believe that PayPal slowly tries to make a profit in the gambling industry without causing too much noise.

They added VC Poker and will hopefully add more sites in the near future. Another important aspect is that the current PayPal accepting gambling sites are all respectable sites with a lot of years in the industry.

We should all hope that PayPal doesn’t get stung on their little mission into the world of online gambling. PayPal is the largest payment processor online and their participation would funnel a lot of money into the internet gambling industry.
